  • Trump aide says Trudeau ‘stabbed us in the back’

While at the Summit in Quebec, Canada, Trump blasted the foreign leaders who were there with him as they jointly were supposed to come up with new solutions and possibilities for trade. He really, actually, you know: "he did a great disservice to the whole G-7", he said. "Very dishonest & weak", he said of Trudeau.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing, and that ends", said Trump.

A picture of US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel displaying less-than-friendly body language has turned out to be a defining image of the contentious meeting of the G7 leaders of the world's advanced economies. "Maybe, but nobody is forever", he told a news conference flanked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau did not immediately respond to the attacks, but his office said on Saturday after Trump withdrew support for the communique that the prime minister had not said anything in his closing news conference he has not said to Trump before.

The latest condemnation of Trudeau followed Trump's decision to not sign a G-7 communique after a weekend meeting of the seven largest industrialized economies, a group of traditional US allies.

On 1 June, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff for steel and 10% for aluminium on imports from the European Union (EU), Canada, and Mexico.

After Mr. Trump's departure from the G-7, Mr. Trudeau held a press conference Saturday stating that all of the member nations, including the US, had signed a communique pledging to lower tariffs and other trade barriers.

In return, Mr Trump made the French president his guest at his first White House state dinner, after which the U.S. president said of his visitor: "I like him a lot".

Tensions between the U.S. and its G7 partners over trade and the United States withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal were rife in the face of the summit which had been dubbed by some as "G6 plus one", referring to an isolated US.

Trump talks tariffs, NAFTA and G7 relationships as he leaves summit early
Mr Trump left the summit early for Singapore, where he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next week. Trump also railed against French President Emmanuel Macron , after Macron likened him to a rogue leader.

Trump negotiated in good faith on the communique agreed by the other members of the G7, only to have Trudeau criticize US policy after he left, Kudlow said.

Mr Trump warned the EU: "If they retaliate they are making a mistake". The act was deemed so aggressive that other leaders kicked Russian Federation out of the group and canceled an upcoming summit in Russian Federation.

"We had some strong, firm conversations on trade and specifically on American tariffs".

Trudeau had said Canadians "are polite, we're reasonable, but also we will not be pushed around".

Trump's refusal to endorse the G7 vision may be the clearest and starkest sign yet that Trump is not interested in even maintaining a pretense of cooperation between the United States and its closest allies.

A German government spokesman said that his country "stands behind the communique which was collectively agreed upon".

"I would say the relationship is a 10, and I don't blame them".

"For us, it was important that we have a commitment for a rule-based trade order, that we continue to fight against protectionism and that we want to reform the WTO", Ms Merkel told reporters. The US isn't expected to join separate agreements for cleaner oceans or combating climate change, which the other six nations will sign, Merkel said.
