"I feel really great", Trump said.

North Korea's jogging guardians caught the world's attention in April, when they escorted Kim to the landmark inter-Korea summit with South Korean President Moon Jae In.

Trump entered the Kim summit less than a week after an acrimonious Group of 7 meeting in which he and longtime American allies argued about trade policy. Again accusing the longtime U.S. ally of unfair trade practices, Trump added: "Then Justin acts hurt when called out!"

Later in the day, Trump is reportedly set to give his first post-summit interview at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island to Fox News' Sean Hannity, a leading Trump booster, who is in Singapore covering the summit. "Trump seemed to be very aware of this, that he needed to up the stakes and be seen that he is the leader".

A jet carrying Kim landed hours earlier.

As for where Kim will spend the night, he's opted for the St. Regis Singapore, where it is believed he has checked into the hotel's $11,500-a-night Presidential Suite.

With cameras of the world's press trained on them, Trump and Kim displayed an initial atmosphere of bonhomie.

Kim smiled broadly Sunday evening as he met with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Political figures, including Democrats, wished Trump well in his quest for a workable nuclear deal with Kim. The North has faced crippling diplomatic and economic sanctions as it has advanced development of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

"Security for Kim Jong Un will be tighter than for any other VIPs", Kim Doo-hyun, a professor at Korea National Sport University, told Reuters.

Economic adviser Larry Kudlow suffers heart attack
Kudlow, who is a wry and upbeat speaker, has adopted some of Trump's hard-line rhetoric while working inside the West Wing. He previously served in the Reagan administration and emerged as a leading evangelist for tax cuts and smaller government.

Experts believe the North is on the brink of being able to target the entire United States mainland with its nuclear-armed missiles, and while there's deep skepticism that Kim will quickly give up those hard-won nukes, there's also some hope that diplomacy can replace the animosity between the USA and the North.

"Nice to meet you Mister President", Kim said as he sat alongside Trump, against a backdrop of North Korean and USA flags, beaming broadly as the U.S. president gave him a thumbs up.

After the men shook hands, they repaired inside for one-on-one talks.

USA and North Korean officials are set to meet Monday morning in Singapore to make final preparations for Tuesday's meeting. It's "stunning" and "not to be minimized in any way", but it's also important to remember that "Kim Jong Un has given up nothing at this point".

North Korea granted such access as part of a Clinton-era diplomatic deal and agreed to freeze its nuclear material production.

The White House has not said whether the president will raise issue with North Korea's dismal human rights record, but the president took time in the hours before his meeting to take a swipe at critics of the sit-down.

Trump and Kim will first sit down for a one-on-one meeting accompanied only by personal translators.

"We're here, overcoming everything", the reclusive Kim told Trump, adding that the two countries overcame many obstacles on their way forward. Trump has also raised the possibility of further summits and an agreement ending the Korean War by replacing the armistice signed in 1953 with a peace treaty. Later in the day, he met with senior advisers and phoned the leaders of Japan and South Korea.

Tweeting from his hotel room in the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday, Trump sought to heighten the suspense.
