Sporting CP could be facing a mass exodus this summer, after a number of reports claimed that a host of first-team players have filed papers with the Portuguese Football Federation confirming their desire to terminate their contracts.

Sporting CP are now in a spot of bother, with a number of first-team players seeking exits following unprecedented attacks from sections of the club's fan-base.

William Carvalho, Gelson Martins, Bruno Fernandes have all made a decision to break their club contracts with Sporting Lisbon following a season of off-the-field trouble between players, fans and the owner.

It's the latest in a series of freaky developments at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Head coach Jorge Jesus has already left for Saudi club Al-Hilal, while goalkeeper Rui Patricio and winger Daniel Podence had already informed the Primeira Liga side they would be leaving.

Martins, who was the most influential player for Sporting Lisbon, scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 52 appearances. Only last summer, Record (h/t Uche Amako of the Daily Express) reported the Reds were willing to spend £43.7 million on his signature.

The newspaper says Arsenal low-balled Sporting as Martins has been threatening to terminate his contract if they didn't negotiate his sale but the Portuguese club rejected our offer and insisted we pay his £53m release clause in full.
