After Meeting With Kim, Trump Calls Media "Country's Biggest Enemy"

  • Kim-Trump summit: Where does it leave the main players?

North Korea and South Korea have the most riding on a peace deal, but China, which is next door, is probably next in line.

On 'Hannity, ' President Trump takes Americans inside his meeting with Kim Jong Un.

The move - long demanded by Pyongyang - has been seen as a major concession to North Korea and appeared to take U.S. allies in the region by surprise.

Independent experts say the North could have enough fissile material for anywhere between about a dozen and 60 nuclear bombs.

Talks are to be led on the US side by Pompeo and, according to the agreement, a "relevant, high-level" North Korean official.

While Trump and Kim concluded their summit in Singapore by signing a joint statement that promised "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", it did not specify what that process would entail. When pressed later about whether he had betrayed the political prisoners in North Korean gulags, Trump suggested that improving relations would help them.

"Under the circumstances that we're negotiating a very comprehensive complete deal, I think it's inappropriate to have war games", Trump said of the joint military exercises that for decades have bolstered USA and South Korean readiness.

If the United States pulls out of South Korea, as Trump wants to, it will accelerate China's dominance in Asia, and likely around the world. "No longer - sleep well tonight!"

Trump, seemingly unprompted, has long wanted to withdraw the USA from South Korea, and now he may have found a reason. The words came back to haunt the administration, as the war dragged on throughout Bush's presidency.

"I believe in North Korea", Rodman said. "That will take a while".

In just one example of the uncertainty after the meeting, it emerged that Trump had offered Kim "security guarantees" - a phrase that usually connotes military protection, which can not possibly be what Trump meant.

Trump also said that he would be willing to invite Kim to visit the White House following this first meeting.

The president also commented on his relationship with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau , saying he was surprised by Mr. The German leader said she had no idea of Donald Trump's motive for suggesting to revive the G8 format.

These defectors turned to Trump in part because South Korea had already embraced an engagement strategy with North Korea. But simultaneously, Seoul is aiming to prepare its defenses in case the US decides to halt joint military exercises indefinitely or pull out the around 28,000 troops it has stationed inside South Korea's borders.

In his tweets on Wednesday, Trump also defended a major concession made to North Korea while he was in Singapore: that the United States would halt joint military exercises with South Korean forces on the Korean Peninsula.

"The United States is our ally, so the joint military drills are still necessary to maintain our relationship with the U.S.", said Lee Jae Sung, from Incheon. "I really don't care how generous we are as long as we don't go too far when it comes to our troop presence".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived at Osan Air Base south of Seoul from Singapore early Wednesday evening.

But the future remains uncertain - the US and North Korea did not reach any agreement on the details of how to achieve or verify that denuclearization.

Mr Pompeo will meet President Moon Jae-in on Thursday morning to discuss the summit. Pompeo, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, then plans to fly to Beijing to update the Chinese government on the talks. "North Korea has great potential for the future!" As the two flags hung side-by-side in the backdrop for the first time ever, both Kim and Trump expressed hope that their summit would be fruitful.

But there was no mentioning the previous USA aim of "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization".

"We're hopeful that we can achieve that in, what was it, the next two and half years", the top American diplomat said when asked how soon the USA wanted to see North Korea move to dismantle its nuclear weapons program. He called the exercises expensive, "very provocative" and "inappropriate".

On Saturday, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan told reporters at Beijing Capital International Airport that his country would give the same warm welcome to the North Koreans as they have done to other state guests.

"We would like to seek an understanding of this between Japan, the USA and South Korea", he said, Reuters reported.

It's reflective of a broader theme on the KOSPI index, with other South Korean construction companies (such as Hyundai Cement, up more than 300%) also posting strong gains in recent months.
