  • The pair died after falling from the cliff top at Pescadores Beach in Ericeira Portugal

This is the first picture of a British tourist who died along with her Australian boyfriend when they plunged off a 90ft beach wall while taking a selfie.

Praia dos Pescadores - or Fishermans Beach - on Portugal's Atlantic coast, is around 25 miles from Lisbon and is popular with tourists and surfers.

The bodies of the couple, both believed to be aged in their 30s, were found in the sand by a beach cleaner, local media has reported.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family and is in contact with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

In a chilling twist, Mr Kearns shared a photo of a glass of red wine on the beach with the exact 30-metre wall he would fall from just 24 hours before his death.

"We found a mobile phone [at the bottom of] on the sea wall which indicated they might have been taking a selfie when the phone fell - they leaned over to get it and fell", he said.

Ivanka Trump mocked for sharing ‘Chinese proverb’ that isn’t actually Chinese
Ivanka Trump on Monday tweeted a "Chinese proverb" to mark the historic meeting between Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un. Some said it could have been "Don't give advice while watching others playing a chess game".

Rescue service chief Rui Pereira da Terra told news agency Lusa: "Everything seems to indicate that the fall happened when they were probably trying to take a selfie".

Police say they believe the couple lost their balance and fell off the wall at some time between 1am and 6am on Tuesday.

"The Department has been in contact with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding the other person who died in the incident", the spokesperson said.

Portuguese officials said the pair are thought to have been on the 30-metre (100ft) high wall before they died.

The Australian Embassy in Lisbon has also been informed of the death.
