  • Microsoft Releases Office 2019 for Mac Preview

As with the previous release back in April of this year, this latest Office 2019 preview will be available internally to businesses who have yet to take the move over to Microsoft's cloud-based Office 365 offering.

Simplified ribbon-Microsoft is introducing an updated simplified version of the ribbon that is created to help users focus on their work and collaborate easily with others. There's now going to be a more "compact" view for the ribbon, with a collaboration view in the top right corner.

Next up, with the new colors and designs, users can expect to see Fluent-Design inspired changes across the Office web apps. You can see the new icons in the image above, and as with the simplified ribbon, we'll see these launch in Word for Office.com this month before arriving to Insiders using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows later in June. They'll first make an appearance on the web version of Word, and they'll make their way to Works, Excel and PowerPoint for Windows for Insiders later this month.

But the charity has a new and more pressing problem: Italy's new government. It suggested that the hundreds on board "are running out of provisions".

That subscription qualification is important: only Office 365 subscribers will get this new interface. To name a few, features like the roaming pencil case and ribbon customisations will debut in the Office apps with the new edition. The company promises that, at least for now, users of those applications will be able to revert to the old ribbon should they prefer it. Microsoft is also planning on rolling it out to Outlook for Windows in July, and Outlook for Mac in August.

Microsoft also is making search smarter by providing recommendations that officials said are "powered by AI" and the Microsoft Graph programming interfaces. Command-line tools will allow IT admins to centrally control how and when Office updates are applied to users' devices, and support for industry-standard MDM policies and preferences will give IT the power to enforce organization-wide security policies, including preferences for Visual Basic macros and app settings. These features are already included in Office 365 ProPlus but are not available in Office for Mac 2016. Microsoft plans to roll it out to commercial users of Outlook on the web in August.

New colors and icons-Microsoft is updating the colors of icons and also introducing new icons built as scalable graphics. Word on Windows will also have to wait as Microsoft collects feedback from a broader set of users.
