The French interior minister says that a hostage-taker has been arrested and his hostages freed, some four hours after holing up in a building in central Paris.

Police swarmed a building in Paris on Tuesday, saying a man had taken two people hostage.

"The man claims to be in possession of a bomb and a handgun", France Bleu said, adding that the hostage-taker demanded to speak with Iranian embassy.

He said: "An armed man is entrenched rue des Petits Stables, Paris 10th".

One hostage has a head injury, Yves Lefebvre, a police union spokesman, said.
