Robert De Niro Apologizes To Canada For Trump's 'Idiotic Behavior'

Just one day after firing off an expletive at President Donald Trump at the 2018 Tony Awards, Robert De Niro got political again by apologizing to Canada for him.

The 74-year-old star attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Nobu hotel in Toronto where he told a crowd that he was sorry for the "idiotic behavior of my president".

Trump and Trudeau have been engaged in a war of words over trade since the weekend's Group of Seven economic summit.

In two tweets that announced the end of USA support for the joint G-7 statement, Trump claimed Trudeau made "false statements" during a prior news conference and went on to lambaste the Canadian leader.

Actor Robert De Niro received an onslaught of criticism after he appeared at the Tony Awards on Sunday and said "F**k Trump". He also extended condolences to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, after Trump criticized the Canadian leader on Twitter.

The denunciation is less of a surprise when you consider that a month before Trump was elected, De Niro made a video in which he called him a "pig" and a "bullshit artist".

"So when De Niro finally got the call to see Springsteen play live, he said 'yes without asking any questions".

PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around".

De Niro's negative opinions about Trump are nothing new.

"Bruce, you can rock the house like nobody else", said De Niro.

A spokesperson for the United States network CBS - which was broadcasting the event - subsequently confirmed that it had bleeped the actor's curses out of the show.
