Why Chris Mannix Isn’t Buying Talk Of LeBron James Signing With Celtics

13 June, 2018, 01:02 | Author: Heidi Alvarez
  • With a deep talented roster that is about to get expensive the Boston Celtics are going to have decisions to make about who to pay

Entering the playoffs, it seemed that Boston was destined for a early exit but the Celtics would win their first round series 4-3 over the Milwaukee Bucks and 4-1 over the Philadelphia 76ers in the semifinals.

That was the case when the Celtics point guard gave an ambiguous response to New York Times reporter Sopan Debb when asked about his future with Boston.

"I would just say the consistency, the authenticity, and honesty, from everything that we're doing as a team and an organization", Irving said.

That came shortly after Celtics play-by-play man Mike Gorman said he wasn't sure if Irving would be a member of the Celtics in the coming seasons.

There is no easy decision here, as all three plan to anchor the most loaded roster Boston has had to begin a season since 2007-08 with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown flocking them.

"If you're faced with losing him for nothing, they should take Gordon Hayward".

That's the group Irving will lead next year, and it's the group he could lead for the foreseeable future, if he decides to remain in Boston.

Durant has pledged to come back, but the futures of Zaza Pachulia, David West , JaVale McGee, and Nick Young are in flux. Evans might want to get some Golden State shine for one year in an effort to cash in down the line.

"If Irving is available in a trade this summer, the Knicks should absolutely engage the Celtics - albeit warily because GM Danny Ainge has been known to prevail in negotiations".

Throughout the regular season, much was made about where James will go next due to a player option in his contract and speculation has only increased following the Warriors' sweep of the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals last week. "They have experience, our young guys, that sometimes other young guys in the league aren't necessarily afforded. That's something a lot of us are excited to see from G".

Irving said that's a discussion to be had after the upcoming season.

Irving was a key part of Boston's season, where they finished with the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.

When Kyrie Irving talks, people tend to listen.

Smart's future with the Celtics is uncertain, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent, but Irving isn't focused on the rumor mill of who's staying and who's going. That's the only thing I'm really anxious about.

"I think you guys can feel my attitude is really just redemption next year", Irving said. Really integrating myself with our team again and really focus on winning a championship. Until I get to that point, then I can't really answer any questions.
