  • Canada rallies to Trudeau after Trump's insult

In his tweet after departing Charlevoix, he wrote: "Based on Justin's false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!"

After he left the G7 summit in Quebec on Saturday, Trump posted a series of Tweets criticizing Trudeau for staying firm on the counter-tariffs imposed in reaction to USA tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.

Trudeau had said after Trump's exit that Canada would retaliate against US tariffs.

In an extraordinary interview with CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, Larry Kudlow, who was present for negotiations at the G7 summit in Quebec over the weekend, said Trudeau had instigated "a betrayal" and was "essentially double-crossing President Trump".

Trudeau had been saying the same thing for several weeks, but Trump apparently found it reprehensible to repeat the message on the eve of his historic summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

On Tuesday, Trump kept up the attack on Trudeau. Canada argues that it still allows a higher ratio of sold milk to be imported from overseas than the US does and that there is not necessarily a causal relationship between the USA industry crisis and tariffs.

While foreign policy issues such as North Korea do not usually have much bearing on the polls, Mr Trump's outburst against Nato allies, the European Union and Canada appeared aimed at striking a chord with voters who support his America First agenda.

"There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door", he said.

They did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and their court filings were not publicly available at press time. Nauert said Martinelli's extradition followed normal procedures established by the countries' bilateral extradition treaty.

That statement was followed by another of Trump's Tweets in which he further criticised close all Canada and its leadership for profiting from their trade agreement with the US.

"We're going to fix that situation", he said.

Kudlow said the president won't "let a Canadian prime minister push him around".

The worldwide meeting between seven of the world's leading nations was held in Quebec, Canada, over the weekend and proved to be a tense encounter between Trump and other foreign leaders.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is set to debrief Commissioners about the G7 and underline the commitment made by the EU in the communiqué to "continue to stand up for an worldwide rules-based multilateral system". Thomas Wright, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, told reporters that for Trump's first 500 days, "these countries generally were bent over backwards not to criticize President Trump".

The report claims, according to press sources, both Canada and Mexico have dismissed the idea of bilateral deals, as have several key USA lawmakers. "It was very friendly", Trump said.

While trade is expected to dominate, Trudeau also wants to focus on gender equality and climate change.

The motion offers a collective parliamentary backing of the Canadian steel, aluminum, and supply management sectors and support for the Canadian government's retaliatory tariffs.
