  • Fool Trade: Trump continues to rip G7 in tweetstorm

Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland warned Tuesday that Canada is prepared for anything, even as the USA considers auto tariffs that experts say would lead to a full-out trade war, harming both Canadian and American businesses.

"My mission was to send a very strong signal of strength. the problem was that in conveying that message I used language that was inappropriate", Navarro said at a Wall Street Journal CFO Network conference in Washington. And I see the television and he's giving a news conference about how he will not be pushed around by the United States and I say push him around?

Peter Navarro, the director of the White House National Trade Council, took the attacks a step further.

In a tweet posted Saturday evening, Trump said his decision to rescind support for the statement was based on "false statements" made by Trudeau during a press conference he gave, as well as "the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs" on US companies. "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did", said Navarro, referring to the joint press conference that is routinely held at the end of the annual events.

But the White House adviser did not say what precisely it was that Trudeau said at a press conference following the G-7 summit over the weekend that warranted the White House's aggressive response.

Trump's supportive Wednesday tweet left us confused.

"Very dishonest and weak", he said. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!

"I know my colleagues are hearing from numerous businesses and manufacturers across the country very similar stories, that this trade dispute is probably two weeks away from affecting Canadians in a very real way", he said.

Raging bull Robert De Niro hits Trump with F-bomb rant
His economic adviser then went on CNN to say that Trudeau had "stabbed Trump in the back" with his comments on tariffs. But, not surprisingly, the Twitterverse blew up with people curious about what De Niro had uttered.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday called on all parties "to honour their commitments to work with the UN". Yemen's minister of human rights Mohamad Askar summed up the dilemma.

Trudeau also said he would stand up for Canadians.

"Germany pays 1 percent (slowly) of GDP towards North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, while we pay 4 percent of a MUCH larger GDP", Trump argued, adding that while Washington protects Europe, the latter tries to take unfair advantage of its trade.

Trudeau is not Trump's only target in the growing trade war with the other members of the G7, which is made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the UK.

Freeland described Trump's plan to slap tariffs on Canada under the pretext of national security as ridiculous and urged the United States to invest in its global alliances. "But if history tells us one thing, it is that no one nation's pre-eminence is eternal".

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has rejected other calls to speed up the imposition of retaliatory tariffs, saying he wants to respect the government's 30-day consultation period on its proposed $16.6-billion tariff package.

During an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump recounted seeing Trudeau's statement following the G7 summit in Quebec, Canada, during which the prime minister promised to fight back against the US's trade restrictions.

"We've got to look at what supports are available to ensure that if their jobs, their livelihoods are compromised, what can the government do to support these folks".
