Mr Trudeau did not immediately respond, but his office said on Saturday after Mr Trump withdrew support for the communique that the Prime Minister had not said anything in his closing news conference he has not said to Mr Trump before. But then Trump pulled out of a joint statement while citing "false statements" by Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

France and Europe are standing by the G7 communique, a French presidency official said, adding anyone departing from the commitments made at the summit would be showing their "incoherence and inconsistency".

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, lashed out at Trudeau as "amateurish" and "sophomoric" for a news conference he gave after Trump left the G7 summit on Saturday.

Trump complains that Trudeau treated him disrespectfully at the G7.

For good measure, Trump sent out more tweets the morning of June 8 before his arrival in Quebec - "Canada charges the US a 270% tariff on Dairy Products!"

Even Hollywood actor Robert de Niro was weighing in. He also attacked Trudeau's character, calling the Liberal Party leader meek, weak and dishonest.

And on Twitter, the hashtag #ThanksCanada was trending with Americans thanking their neighbours to the north for everything from Nanaimo bars to hockey to caring for airline passengers during 9/11.

The US blamed Canada on Sunday for the disastrous ending to the G7 summit, saying Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "stabbed us in the back", while American allies held Washington responsible.

He said he believes other countries are now more committed to a fairer trade relationship. He told CNN's Jake Tapper that "of course" Trump's tweets about Trudeau actually had to do with North Korea "in large part".

"POTUS is not gonna let a Canadian prime minister push him around, " Kudlow said.

At a news conference Tuesday after his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Trump recounted his recent tough exchanges with Trudeau.

"Canada is very clear", she said. "Not fair to the people of America!"

Support for Canada and its allies surfaced in the US, with Republican Arizona Sen.

Still, other Trump advisers had taken up the attack in appearances on Sunday's news shows, leveling more withering and unprecedented criticism against Trudeau, branding him a back-stabber unworthy of Trump's time.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has paid tribute to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's leadership after a G7 summit which she described as "difficult".

The summit was seen as an opportunity to overcome disagreements on new tariffs imposed by the USA on imports.

"Eyebrow gate" may well have been thanks to lighting at the press conference or pictures taken at a unusual angle-but that hasn't stopped speculation about Trudeau's possibly fake eyebrows online, with Twitter loving the odd images.

However, following the summit, Trump tweeted that he was going not going to support the communique, leaving numerous United States' closest allies aghast.

He said: "International co-operation can not depend on being angry and on sound bites".
