Donald Trump says Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has "learned" a lesson after criticising him, and it will cost Canada "a lot of money".

As he flew from Canada to Singapore Saturday night, Trump took to Twitter to label Trudeau "dishonest" and "weak".

The backstabbing charge seems over the top, but the White House's contention is that Trudeau ought to have capped the G-7 summit by talking about Trump and the U.S. "And that comes right from Air Force One". "And I think what people need to do at this moment is take a step back", Hassett said. "But actually we were just talking, the whole group, about something unrelated to everything, very friendly".

He said: "I really believe Kim Jong-un is going to do something positive for his people". And, if I may quote the words of the great Bear Bryant, "when you make a mistake you should admit it, learn from it, don't repeat it".

Trudeau said that the aluminum and steel tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Canada on national security grounds were insulting and that "Canadians are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

They were also thankful for the trade we do with the USA, our military aid, the underground railroad, the refugee program, our inclusivity and, of course, hockey and Tim Hortons.

The NAFTA talks have stalled since Trump last month imposed 25 per cent tariffs on steel from Canada, Mexico and the European Union, and 10 per cent tariffs on aluminum.

The early exit also means he will be gone before allies begin closing news conferences likely to be laden with criticism of the United States stance on trade and Mr Trump's abrupt suggestion yesterday that Russian Federation should be re-admitted to the group. That means the Canadian Border Services Agency would investigate to see if they were exporting at prices lower than their cost of production, or lower than the prices they get in their home US market.

Canada controls dairy supplies and prices and limits imports through high tariffs and has been long criticised by dairy-producing countries such as the United States and New Zealand. Still, Canada accounts for less than 3 percent of global trade, according to Agri-Food Economic Systems.

On Tuesday, Trump said: "We have a big trade deficit with Canada.it's close to $100 billion a year deal loss".

"The meeting on Monday in Singapore with respect to North Korea - that holds important potential for the peace and security of the world", Goodale told FOX Business' Stuart Varney Wednesday on "Varney & Co".

"Everybody was happy, and then he gave out a little bit of an obnoxious thing", Trump said of the prime minister.
