Mickelson throws 'putting tantrum' at US Open

16 June, 2018, 23:56 | Author: Heidi Alvarez

With his ball about to roll down the slope, Lefty ran to his ball ... as it was moving ... and just gave it a whack back towards the cup, obviously missing, and then just marked his ball like nothing had happened. His second shot didn't even go in.

It was a shocking display on the 13th green at Shinnecock Hills on Saturday.

It was about to start rolling down another ridge when Mickelson ran after it and hit it back toward the hole. Despite celebrating his 48th birthday Saturday, Mickelson found very little success on the greens.

According to ESPN, that matched his worst score on a U.S. Open hole as a professional and set a career record for worst score relative to par at the U.S. Open as a pro.

Phil Mickelson took one of the more weird penalties you will ever see at a major golf championship when he intentionally putted a ball that was still rolling.

Also inexplicably, Mickelson walked away from the green with playing partner Andrew "Beef" Johnston smiling. It appeared that he took 8 strokes before the two-stroke penalty was added.

ECB Leaves Rates Steady, Plans To Halt QE At End Of 2018
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures were steady at $66.90 per barrel, while Brent was down 0.1 percent at $75.86. The 30-year bond last rose 21/32 in price to yield 3.0688 percent, from 3.102 percent Wednesday.

Round 3 of the tournament didn't bode well for Phil Mickelson.

"John Daly's reputation took a hit after what he did at Pinehurst in '99 and I fear it will be the same for Phil", said former U.S. Golf Association executive director David Fay.

Guess what: He was back the next year at Pebble Beach, where he pumped three shots into the Pacific Ocean on the famed 18th and hit another shot into someone's backyard.

Another player who let things get to him was Kirk Triplett in 1998 at Olympic Club. He had four consecutive bogeys before parring the 12th, despite the serenading of "Happy Birthday" from the crowds at every hole.

There were initial rumours Mickelson had withdrawn from the event, while the USGA refused to comment on whether the five-time major champion would face any misconduct charges for his behaviour.
