Official images of the 2019 Suzuki Jimny have been handed out, showing the new-look design for the first time.
The new Jimny will finally replace the 20-years old current model, which is also sold under the Mazda AZ and Chevrolet Jimny names in some markets. In such a status quo, it's a how Suzuki managed to continue with the third generation of the Jimny small SUV launched way back in 1998.
Road handling will still be improved, but a Suzuki spokesman explained that the car's unique selling point was its hardy nature, so this will remain the focus during development.
In terms of performance, the new Jimny continues to inherit the ladder frame chassis with a 3-link rigid axle rear suspension, and the part-time 4WD with low-range transfer case.
The car's design reflects its 4x4 status, taking influence from earlier-generation Jimnys with a simple, box-shaped body. There's a touchscreen infotainment system high on the dash with most the controls, like the window switches on the dashboard, too.
Suzuki has been testing the auto in four countries in order to develop the car's chassis set-up and refinement for launch onto the global market. So it'll be a petrol engine of some sort, and most likely Suzuki's 1.0-litre Boosterjet three-cylinder or 1.4-litre Boosterjet four-cylinder (going off the image above it looks to be a four-cylinder based on the manifold) and possibly the brand's 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder as an entry-level option. Giving a big surprise to the SUV-lovers, Suzuki has even better to offer with their latest Suzuki Jimny 2019 model, which is a flawless blend of toughness and the ultra-modern technology. If it does arrive, it will be a viable replacement for the Gypsy, which has been on sale in the country since 1985.
