  • Rupert Stadler’s is the highest-profile arrest in the Volkswagen group’s diesel-cheating probes

German authorities detained the chief executive of Volkswagen's Audi division, Rupert Stadler, as part of a probe into the manipulation of emissions controls after three years have already seen billions in fines and the arrest and indictment of numerous executives, both in the USA and Germany. "We will comment on this later".

The prosecutor's office in Munich said that as part of its investigation into the Audi engine and diesel affairs it has executed an arrest warrant on Rupert Stadler June 18.

Rupert Stadler has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the diesel emissions scandal.

The top executive at Audi was detained at his Ingolstadt home on Monday in the early morning hours.

Munich prosecutors reportedly arrested Stadler due to a potential risk that he might seek to suppress or tamper with evidence related to the scandal.

Spain will control possession and territory and create enough chances for Diego Costa or one of his fellow attackers to finish. Iran provide much tamer opponents than their Iberian rivals, but the current group leaders shouldn't be taken lightly.

The dramatic development comes a week after Munich prosecutors raided Stadler's home after charging him with fraud and falsifying documents that allowed diesel vehicles equipped with cheating software to be sold to European customers. Stadler has been detained as part of a probe into emissions cheating by the company. Volkwagen Group was accused of selling diesel cars with software that turned on full pollution controls only when the auto was undergoing official emissions testing. By repeatedly backing Stadler throughout the crisis, they now have no one to blame but themselves for their lack of foresight.

The devices were initially found in VW's cars, but its Audi subsidiary has also been embroiled in the scandal.

Volkswagen, which last week agreed to pay a fine of €1 billion ($1.2 billion) imposed by German prosecutors, confirmed the arrest. The 56-year-old executive was named to Audi's management board last year, long after the scandal erupted. Volkswagen's supervisory board was set to meet Monday, and Stadler's future with the company could be a topic of discussion, Bloomberg News reported.

The diesel investigation, conducted by prosecutors in Munich and Braunschweig and coordinated with the U.S. Department of Justice, has shifted to Audi and Porsche in the last two years.
