WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 18: U.S. President Donald Trump holds up an executive order that he signed during a meeting of the National Space Council at the East Room of the White House June 18, 2018 in Washington, DC.

The president said it was a matter of national security, that it was not enough to have American astronauts, but that America needed dominance in space. President Trump referred to a Space Force that would be "separate but equal" to the Air Force, which might indicate a more independent service. He continued by adding that the establishment of the Space Force was important because "we don't want China and Russian Federation and other countries leading us".

In speaking to the National Space Council Monday morning, President Trump directed the Pentagon and the Department of Defense to create a military "Space Force". "It is going to be something so important", said Mr. Trump. His successor, President Barack Obama, said in 2016 the U.S. would send humans to Mars by the 2030s.

Nelson - who led the opposition in last year's failed attempt to establish in the annual defense policy bill a separate space corps within the Air Force - made a similar statement during a Senate Armed Services hearing in March.

Aliens preparing for disclosure? The US Air Force is expected to spend over $160 billion next year, which is more than any other military on the planet spends. Even though it would take a lot of time and money to create such a force, Trump said: "There's no place like space".

Phil Mickelson penalized after hitting moving ball
Knowing the rules is never a bad thing. "I think you've got to because it was outrageous what they did to the course". Mickelson also said he did it to gain a competitive advantage, as his ball was rolling off the green behind a bunker.

The idea of an army of space is not new. "We understand the President's guidance". It includes protecting the nation's control over "assets" of space, including US control over commercial access, and a series of plans to document debris that could pose a danger to Earth.

Trump said the United States will "be the leader by far" in space and looks to revive the nation's flagging space program. It sets up new guidelines for satellite design and operation to avoid collisions and spacecraft breakups.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said: "As we continue to thrive in space, we also have more people launching to orbit, and an increasingly complex universe of satellites overhead".

Defense Department spokeswoman Dana White said Pentagon officials immediately began to evaluate the White House's Space Force proposal.
