These organisms are named in honor of former U.S. President Barack Obama (Barack Obama).

This small, disk-shaped sea creature was only half-a-centimeter to two centimeters across and had spiral grooves on its surface.

Another vital person was Jane Fargher, who co-owns the property where Attenborites janeae was found and is immortalized in the name along with Attenborough. Therefore, they offered it the honor of being named after Obama. Now, scientists have risen the ancient lifeform to fame by naming it after former President Barack Obama. Researchers have just stumbled upon two new species in a bed of fossils in southern Australia, and the two creatures received really popular names.

The pre-Cambrian creatures lived in a shallow sea between 580-540 million years ago. The creature lived on the ocean floor its entire life, and looked more like a plant.

"I've been working in this region for 30 years, and I've never seen such a beautifully preserved bed with so many high quality and rare specimens, including Obamus and Attenborites", Mary Droser, a professor of paleontology at UCR's Department of Earth Sciences, said in a statement.

Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer dead at 68
Charles Krauthammer was honored Thursday night at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. after news of his death broke. Krauthammer, a Pulitzer Prize victor and commentator, died at the age of 68.

The discoveries, which are detailed in papers published in the Australian Journal of Earth Sciences, are helping to shape our understanding of how life evolved from single-celled organisms and bacteria to modern animals.

The animals form part of the Ediacaran biota-a unique collection of soft-bodied organisms from the Ediacaran Period that have been preserved as fossils. About 50 genera have been described, Droser said, which often have only one species.

Along with this ancient animal, the scientists from the Univesity of California-Riverside also unearthed a raisin-like creature, shaped like an egg, that they named Attenborites janeae, after Sir David Attenborough, a renowned British naturalist who was advocating for science and supporting paleontology. "These fossils are really enigmatic and we don't even know how they are related to each other". It was dubbed "Alice's Restaurant Bed", an homage to the Arlo Guthrie song and its refrain: "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant".

Droser also commented on the importance of protecting the Flinders Ranges region, highlighting how these discoveries may help in the effort to obtain World Heritage Site status.

Ian Hughes of Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego, and Emily Hughes of Wesleyan University also participated in the research.
