Fallout 76's service-based direction 'doesn't mark the future' of Bethesda games

To put it simply, Bethesda is aware that Switch fans want to see mods in their portable version of Skyrim, but it isn't something that the studio is focusing on.

"Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game", revealed Bethesda frontman Todd Howard in an interview with Geoff Keigley at Gamelab, Barcelona. But while it sounds great, its needing to be policed for consoles means Creation Club offers a more limited selection than on PC, where the gates are wide open.

Fallout Shelter started life as a free mobile base-building game in summer 2015, and PC and Xbox One releases soon followed.

Howard's word highlight a more diverse game line-up, where single-player games like Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield are produced alongside Fallout Shelter and Elder Scrolls: Blades. It seems that one of the areas that he was referring to was the lack of mod support and the Creation Club for the Skyrim Switch port.

"They asked for mods", he replied, "they asked for Creation Club - 'When are we getting more stuff?'"
"We should try it", said Howard. "We would love to see it happen but it's not something we're actively doing", said Todd.

Howard assures that Bethesda games will all have focused mod support going forward, but now, "we still think there's a way to go there".

"Corporately we've done a mix; people forget sometimes". And there are no plans to bring it to the Nintendo Switch at this juncture. However, the boss of Bethesda did promise that future games will get mod support and that includes Fallout 76. Do you think Bethesda is serious about still doing traditional single-player RPGs? Being hopeful is all we can do right now.
