Antonio Conte begins Chelsea preseason with double session

  • Chelsea expect to appoint former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as Conte's replacement

But Conte is still in charge and he will begin preparing Chelsea for the new campaign with Monday's session, the first of a gruelling pre-season schedule he has planned.

The Mirror says the Italian didn't want his squad back until today but the club stuck to their guns and Chelsea's non World Cup players returned on Saturday for fitness testing and stretching.

Chelsea's coaching situation remains uncertain.

Ross Barkley, Cesc Fabregas, Marcos Alonso and David Luiz were among those pictured alongside Conte on the club's official social media channels on Monday as he led a full session for players not involved at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

And the former Juventus boss was present at Cobham on Monday as Chelsea got their preparations for the 2018-19 season underway.

The Italian is widely expected to be replaced by former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri but the Premier League winning coach as Conte wore a tired look at the club's Cobham training base.

They have also targeted a number of transfer targets Sarri has approved.

So far no signings have been made, and allowing the uncertainty surrounding their coaching situation to drag on any longer could seriously jeopardise Chelsea's preseason preparations regardless of who is in charge.

Moses will, however, hope to be part of the squad when Chelsea kick-start their pre-season with a friendly against Perth Glory on July 23 before entering the International Champions Cup at the end of the month.
