One day after posting the video, Al-Mazbouh removed the post and uploaded another video where she apologized "only to the respectful" Egyptians that have shown her support, while attacking Facebook users who insulted her through private messages.

Mona el-Mazboh was arrested at Cairo airport following her 10-minute video.

She was also fined 10,700 Egyptian pounds (around Rs 41,000). El-Mazboh hit a nerve when she ranted about the state of the country, saying the people were the "dirtiest people on earth", saying it's s "country of pimps... the country of beggars", reported the Daily Mail.

Ms Mazbouh later posted an apology video, saying "I definitely didn't mean to offend all Egyptians".

Initially, she was sentenced to 11 years in prison, but that was amended within hours to eight years, the judicial source said.

She was charged with "deliberately broadcasting false rumors which aim to undermine society and attack religions". With all due respect to the judiciary, this is a severe ruling, ' said Emad Kamal.

The father of a Lebanese woman who was recently handed down an eight-year jail term in Egypt over a Facebook post deemed insulting by authorities is speaking up for the first time.

Kamal said a surgery Mazbouh underwent in 2006 to remove a blood clot from her brain has impaired her ability to control anger, a condition documented in a medical report he submitted to the court.

The lawyer filed an appeal against the jail verdict and it will be heard before an appeal court on July 29. "It is in the context of the law, but the court was applying the maximum penalty".

"You deserve what Sisi is doing to you, I hope God sends you someone more oppressive than Sisi", Mazbouh said.

In May, Egyptian authorities had arrested activist Amal Fathy after she posted a video online in which she spoke about her negative experience in and outside a local bank branch.

In it, she claims that her initial video was not meant to be viewed by the public.
