  • Onlookers watched on as the boys were taken to hospital

The eight rescued boys are healthy are in 'high spirits.' They are under constant medical supervision to eliminate any risk of infection.

"He's using those skills at the moment, not only as a doctor but the added benefit that he happens to have this incredible ability to do what no-one else does in diving into very dark, tight spaces with not a lot of equipment", he said.

It's been more than two weeks since the 12 boys and their soccer coach became trapped in the flooded Tham Luang cave at the Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park in Chiang Rai.

Chiang Rai province's acting governor, Narongsak Osatanakorn, who is in charge of the rescue, voiced confidence Monday in the ongoing operation, provided the weather doesn't worsen.

The hazardous bid to rescue the boys - aged between 11 and 16 - started unexpectedly on Sunday when the rescue team said conditions were flawless for the evacuation. The boys then walked from Chamber 3 to the mouth of the cave, which has been mostly drained over the last few days despite heavy rains.

"If Phra Pirun helps us, we might be able to do it very quickly", Narongsak said, again invoking the god of rain, who is widely revered in Thailand.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha visited the cave to inspect the operation, with navy rescuers giving him a rousing cheer. It is made of rocket parts & named Wild Boar after kids' soccer team. Three British diving experts also joined them. Highlighting the extreme dangers, a former Thai Navy SEAL died Friday while replenishing the oxygen canisters laid along the route. It was 10 days before the boys were miraculously located, and the remaining five have been in the cave for eight days.

Amid jubilation, four more boys rescued from flooded Thai cave
Meanwhile, a letter of apology from the coach of the football team was delivered to the boys' parents via the cave divers. But although the eight were rescued, there were concerns they may have contracted an illness while in the cave.

"The rescue has been huge", said volunteer helper Somjit Saenset, 56.

Information on the rescue operation, the health of those rescued - and their identities - has been tightly guarded by Thai authorities.

Twelve children and one adult were trapped in underground caves in northern Thailand on June 23rd, and a rescue mission is still taking place to bring the victims home.

Narongsak said the rescued boys had not been identified out of respect for the families whose sons were still trapped, adding that the boys were being kept away from their parents due to fear of infection. Bancha Duriyapan told a news conference punctuated by applause from the dozens of Thai and foreign journalists and others in attendance.

"We have not been told which child has been brought out ..." However, doctors later relented after some of the boys asked for bread with chocolate topping.

"I'm hoping for good news".

Soccer's governing body, FIFA, has invited the boys to the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday.
