  • CDC Reports 212 Confirmed Cases of Cyclospora in Midwest

The parasite that causes this intestinal illness was found in 6 oz., 12 oz. and 28 oz. vegetable trays containing fresh broccoli, cauliflower, celery sticks, carrots and dill dip sold to select retailers in the above-mentioned states, as well as in IL and Indiana.

The recall on vegetable trays sold at Kwik Trip and other location on June 15 has impacted consumers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

FDA, CDC, state, and local partners are now investigating several Cyclospora illnesses associated with recalled Del Monte 6oz and 12oz vegetable trays containing broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and dill dip that were sold by Kwik Trip/Kwik Star locations in IA, IN, MI, MN, and WI. They contain fresh broccoli, cauliflower, celery sticks, carrots, and dill dip, officials said. In some cases, a patient who reports feeling better may get sick again. Seven people were hospitalized but no deaths have been reported.

Russian Federation head coach Stanislav Cherchesov said his team were understandably disappointed with the result. There was not a single national team in the World Cup that had the complete trust of their country.

Osterholm said he suspected the actual number of cases was much higher than the 212 confirmed so far by health officials.

The investigation is ongoing and the CDC will provide updates when more information is available. The exact ailment the poor victims were hit with is cyclosporiasis-which is transmitted by (brace yourself) human fecal matter.

The outbreak of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal infection caused by the cyclospora parasite, was first tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in mid-June, after 78 people were reported ill across the region. Some people who are infected with Cyclospora do not have any symptoms. Symptoms of cyclospora are diarrhea and frequent, sometimes explosive bowel movements, according to the CDC. Vomiting, body aches, headache, fever, and other flu-like symptoms may also happen. If not treated, these symptoms may last up to a month or longer.
