Chiang Rai acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn, who is heading the operation, said that 13 foreign and five Thai divers were taking part in the rescue and that two divers would accompany each boy as they're gradually extracted.
Several media outlets reported the initial plan was to start with the strongest boys first, but the plan seems to have been reversed with the weakest boys rescued first, according to Thai media and the BBC.
According to a document released by the Thai authorities, the operation has involved two divers accompanying each of the teenagers, who are being brought out in groups.
Narongsak said the four rescued boys were then taken to a hospital.
On Friday, officials warned that oxygen levels in the cave dropped from 21% to 15%, further complicating rescue efforts.
But bringing out the remaining four boys and their coach could take more than one operation, Narongsak warned.
But rescuers have a dwindling window of opportunity, with forecasters predicting the return of heavy monsoon rains in the coming days, effectively sealing off the cave until October.
When they arrive, the British team will consist of seven experienced cave divers |and three non-divers to help with communication within the cave and to provide |general support, the BCRC said in a statement.
But Osottanakorn said on Sunday it would be up to boys and a doctor inside the cave with them to determine the order in which they would exit.
Speculation about the identities of the four boys who have been successfully evacuated from the cave is rife in the surrounding areas.

Rescue teams need at least 10 hours to get ready for the next phase of their mission.
Thirteen medical teams were stationed outside the cave - each with its own helicopter and ambulance - one for each of the 12 boys and their coach.
On Saturday, Musk tweeted that he was interested in designing "a tiny, kid-sized submarine" that would be "light enough to be carried by 2 divers, small enough to get through narrow gaps".
Sky News correspondent Alex Rossi, who has been in Chiang Rai province this week, said: "The mood has lifted somewhat but there's still a long way to go".
It's been nearly 24 hours since a joint Thai-international rescue team successfully navigated flooded, narrow tunnels to bring out four members of the Wild Boars youth soccer team who went missing in the cave complex on June 23. So what this means is that more oxygen is being consumed than is being replaced. "Just the words "thank you" is not enough to explain all the feelings we have for them". Their families have been informed and reportedly agreed with the decision to make the most of the opportunity to get the boys out before the forecasted monsoonal rain sets in.
The first boy made it out at 5.31pm (11.31am United Kingdom time), and at 7.47pm (1.47pm) the Thai navy SEALS announced: 'Fourth Wild Boar out of the cave!' The youngsters were assessed by medics at the cave entrance before being taken to hospital. The tweets show the submarine being slowly ferried underwater by a team of divers.
Thailand's Navy SEAL commander says oxygen levels inside have dropped.
Asked how the authorities had decided which boys were to be taken out first, Mr Narongsak said: "Their health".
"I am still waiting here at the cave, keeping my fingers crossed to see whether my son will be one of those to come out today", Supaluk Sompiengjai, a mother of Pheeraphat - known by his nickname "Night" - told AFP.
