William Dunlop Killed In Crash At Skerries 100 Road Races

The 32-year-old Dunlop was riding in practice for the event when a crash occured. William's brother, Michael, has accumulated 18 victories on the same mountain course.

William Dunlop himself had sustained a prolific road racing career, with four North West 200 wins, seven Ulster Grand Prix wins, and several podium positions in TT Zero.

Dunlop recently revealed he was expecting a second child with his partner Janine.

He said: This is a bad tragedy and my thoughts and prayers are with the Dunlop family at this hard time.

It is extremely sad news to hear that William has succumbed to injuries received on his return to racing it is hard to find words to pay tribute to such a likeable rider.

"Such a lovely fella on & off the bike. He will be missed so much by us all", they said.

The Dunlop dynasty of motorcycle racers is legendary, but also mired in tragedy.

"It is devastating news that William has also lost his life so tragically and my thoughts and prayers and those of the people of this Council area, are with the Dunlop family at this very hard and sad time". "Sport in general, and not just road racing, has lost another Dunlop legend".

Philip McGuigan, a Sinn Fein member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for North Antrim, expressed his condolences. Antrim, William's hometown, described the news of his death "absolutely devastating".

"The Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club extends their heartfelt sympathy to William Dunlop's family and friends", they said.

A statement released on behalf of the club said the prize money will go to William's family. William's brother, Joey, is also scheduled to participate in the Skerries 100 this weekend, and both brothers were also competing at the North West 200 in 2008 when father Robert suffered a fatal accident during practice.
