  • Aditi finishes tied 35th at Thornberry LPGA

Korea's Sei Young Kim equalled the 54 hole LPGA Tour scoring record when adding yet another stunning round at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Wisconsin, opening up an eight shot lead over her fellow countrywoman Amy Yang in the process.

The 25-year-old, who won her last LPGA title in May 2017 at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play in Mexico, secured the victory with seven birdies in the final round on Sunday, reports Efe.

Those numbers smashed the tour record in relation to par (-27 held by Kim and Annika Sorenstam) and the raw scoring record for a 72 hole event by one shot.

Australia's Katherine Kirk started the tournament with a 10-under 62 and has been sub-par every round but finds herself 10 shots behind Kim in a tie for sixth going into the final round after her 69. The only mistake she made in the tournament was a double bogey on the 17th hole in the second round. Els set the PGA Tour's 72-hole score record of 31 under par at the 2003 Mercedes Championships.

She also broke the record for fewest strokes over 72 holes of 258, achieved by Karen Stupples in 2004 and matched by Angela Stanford and Park Hee-Young in 2013.

But she dropped shots on eighth and ninth before a stretch of pars. Sorenstam won by two shots over Se Ri Pak when she shot her 27 under at Moon Valley at a tournament that no longer exists.

Torres made seven birdies against just one bogey for her 66 on Sunday. Kim, who had a 63 on Thursday and a 65 on Friday, got rolling with an eagle on No. 3 and added six birdies.

Ciganda missed the fairway and wound up with an unfortunate double bogey cut she still closed with a final round 64 to claim sole possession of 2nd at -22.

Brittany Marchand of Orangeville, Ont., was the top Canadian, ending in a tie for seventh at 17 under for her first career top-10 finish. No one, and I mean no one ever dreamed there would be this many birdies but the Oneida Nation is a generous bunch and there was nothing wrong with witnessing golf history this week, re-written by one Sei Young Kim.

"I made a really good up and down on 17 and then to stick it close on 18 to give myself an opportunity was great", said Law.

Kim won for the first time this year and joined Brooke Henderson as the only players on the LPGA Tour with at least one victory in each of theist four seasons.
