  • Liverpool transfer news John Barnes claims Jurgen Klopp must sign a new goalkeeper

Jürgen Klopp defended Loris Karius' actions after he made another blunder in goal in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers.

The 25-year-old German spilled a free-kick that allowed the hosts to score in Liverpool's 3-2 win at Prenton Park.

However, Karius featured for Liverpool FC in their first pre-season friendly against Chester over the weekend, and Klopp was clearly pleased by his performance in the 7-0 win.

"No-one likes that goal but if we talk about the second goal I think it was Millie's [James Milner's] fault together with [Pedro] Chirvella".

'Two brilliant footballers make mistakes but we only talk about one.

When Karius made two bad mistakes in the Champions League final, supporters were furious and the last month and a half has been a process of trying to forgive the German even if forgetting is not an option. "We need to cool down the whole situation; let's play football, let's work on our weaknesses and use our strength and then everything will be good".

Manchester City confirm signing of Mahrez
Now it seems City are seeking to get rid of him for good, and Birmingham City are said to be in with a chance of signing him. Mahrez joined Leicester from Le Havre in January 2014 and helped them to a first place finish in the Championship.

'You [the media] can all stop that immediately. You never ask again, that would be one little step!

"It [criticism] will probably happen for a while until he has a few fantastic games, that is how the situation is", he said. That's our part of the deal.

"I've seen this situation 500 times at least in my life - "Bam", against the chest, (ball) going down".

"The boss is asking me to do a job as a right-back for him". None of the three, it should be said, have convinced that they can be Liverpool's goalkeeper for the long term.

"Everybody has a place [here]".
