  • Disney and Lucasfilm will now release Indiana Jones 5 just ahead of Harrison Ford's 79th birthday

After an endless amount of hemming and hawing, Indiana Jones 5 is officially confirmed by Disney.

While director Steven Spielberg remains on board, screenwriter David Koepp departed to direct his own project, so Jonathan Kasdan (son of legendary Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan) has stepped in to work on a new draft of the screenplay. Steven Spielberg is directing and Harrison Ford is set to star.

While the delayed release of Indiana Jones has been widely reported, it is a bit of a surprise that Mary Poppins Returns is being moved up.

Wimbledon 2018: Rafael Nadal Prefers Not To Face Roger Federer In Final
Anderson scented blood and, out-duelling Federer time and again, he broke in the seventh game to level the match at two sets all. Federer, the No. 1 seed, had match point up 5-4 in the third set, but could not put Anderson, the No. 8 seed, away.

The fifth Indiana Jones film is now scheduled to open on July 9, 2021, moving back a year from its earlier announced release date of July 10, 2020. "It's rare to have such a flawless combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn't be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven". Thankfully, Disney has released an updated release schedule that doesn't just let us know when Indiana Jones' newest adventure will hit the big screen, but also gives us some good news about the release of Mary Poppins Returns. With Disney's recent success with the Star Wars franchise (and it's expansion into standalone films), the continuation of the Indy franchise seemed inevitable.

At some point in the near future (if we're not there already), Harrison Ford isn't going to be able to play an action hero type any more. The good news is that Shia LaBeouf won't be anywhere near this installment.
