After seeing off big servers Kyle Edmund and Karen Khachanov, he faced Nishikori, who had recovered from his own serious injury to hit peak form in reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final.

However, Nishikori was prevented from launching a comeback as Djokovic, a three-time Wimbledon champion, regained his composure and managed to grind out wins in the third set (6-2) and in the fourth set (6-2) to set up a semifinal match against Juan Martín del Potro or Rafa Nadal.

"I thought it was unnecessary to get the warning", Djokovic said as he came off court. I get the warning, he doesn't - it's not fair.

It will be Djokovic's first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2016 US Open as he continues his bid to return to the top of the game.

Serbia´s Novak Djokovic serves to Japan´s Kei Nishikori during their men´s singles quarter-finals match on the ninth day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships.

He looks very fired-up, he looks very motivated so I think Novak has got a great shot as well.' Analyzing how elbow issues influenced Djokovic's mental status, Murray added: 'He's spoken about that, he said the mental side has been hard for him. "I feel like I'm peaking at the right moment".

At the end of the video, Knight spoke dearly of his brother, Eric, whom he seemed to express remorse for treating badly. He detailed his struggle with mental illness, saying, "I isolated myself from my family members".

"You think I ruined the court for just throwing my racket (down)?"

After serving his way to a 2-1 lead in the third set, Djokovic ramped up his efforts and was met head-on with Nishikori's increase in tempo, but the No. 24 seed missed three break points at 2-2 and was soon trailing.

The three-time Wimbledon champion was broken in the opening game of the fourth set, but won the next four games and broke again to clinch victory. "I knew how I threw the racquet", he said.

After two years of physical and mental struggles, Djokovic appears fit and confident and ready to try to add to his tally of 12 grand slam titles.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion then raised his level in the fourth set and finished with a victor into the corner to book his place in Friday's semi-finals where he was joined by a familiar foe as Nadal won through late in the day.

The 12th game went to deuce eight times, with Simon saving four set points, as Del Potro failed to take his chances, the worst when he put an easy volley over the baseline with the court wide open.
