  • Federation Internationale de Football Association addresses TV shots of hot female fans at World Cup

FIFA has ordered World Cup broadcasters to stop zooming their cameras in on "hot women" in the crowd during matches, to help prevent sexism in football.

When asked what Fifa could do to tackle this, the federation's diversity boss Federico Addiechi said it had been working with the local organisers and Russian police to identify these fans and, when appropriate, they had lost their Fan-IDs and been forced to leave the country.

Before the World Cup kicked off in Russian Federation, there were widespread fears that racism and homophobia would be the most pressing problems at this year's tournament.

"It's been a largely positive experience and there hasn't been a great deal of incidents of the type we expected", Powar told reporters, referring to pre-tournament fears of racism and homophobia.

"This is one of the activities we definitely will have in future - it's a normal evolution", he said.

The "hot female fan" image is widespread in coverage of the World Cup.

Federation Internationale de Football Association has selected Nestor Pitana to referee the World Cup final between France and Croatia on Sunday.

Still, FIFA did impose fines during the tournament on soccer federations including Serbia, Russia and Poland for racist, nationalist and offensive banners displayed by fans at games. All were young women.

For women fans who don't look this way, or choose not to, the cost is media invisibility.

Three games an the U-17 World Cup in 2013 preceded a call-up the following year for the World Cup in Brazil, where Pitana supervised four fixtures, including France v Germany in the quarter-finals.

The criteria for being a male sport fan in the online domain appear to have little to do with physical attractiveness.

Another Argentine referee, Horacio Elizando, refereed both the opener and the final at the 2006 World Cup.
