  • Woman harassed for wearing Puerto Rico shirt

Officer Patrick Connor resigned late Wednesday amid an investigation into his response to a woman who said she was being harassed in a Chicago forest preserve for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag on it.

In the video of the June 14 incident, which has since been widely circulated online, Trybus is heard repeatedly questioning the woman's citizenship and told her she shouldn't be wearing her Puerto Rican flag shirt.

"After a review of the case, we approved felony hate crimes charges", said Robert Foley, spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

Timothy G. Trybus, the man police say harassed Irizarry, was arrested on the day of the incident on charges of assault and disorderly conduct, according to a police report.

Trybus is scheduled for his first court appearance August 1, the Cook County Circuit Court said.

Irizarry recorded the encounter on her phone, saying she felt threatened, and posted the video to Facebook. "The United States of America is a nation that was built and thrives on diversity".

Florida man with no arms accused of stabbing man with scissors
Police said there were no indications that Crenshaw was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. Coronado told investigators he stopped to ask Crenshaw for directions before he jumped up and stabbed him.

"Officer, I'm renting this area and he's harassing me about the shirt I'm wearing, ' Irizzary then tells the cop, who had already been called to the scene to investigate Trybus" intoxicated behavior. I do not feel comfortable with him here.

"It was truly appalling, gut wrenching and a real wake up call", Cook County Commissioner Luis Arroyo Jr. said. "Are you a United States citizen?"

The officer resigned Wednesday, and the investigation into the incident continues, the agency said. While Trybus shouts at her, points at her face and follows her around part of the park, Connor can be seen standing about 20 feet away with his hands against his chest.

What unfolds over the 30-minutes is a man physically and verbally intimidating a very polite and poised 24 year old American woman, while a uniformed police officer stands by and does nothing to intervene or help. As Trybus continues to harass her other officers arrived and a female police officer finally steps in on behalf of Irizarry.

The Forest Preserve Superintendent will speak more about the matter Thursday morning. The island is a USA commonwealth, and Puerto Ricans are American citizens.

The island of Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. We can not allow those who do not understand America's greatness to terrorize people due to their background.
