  • Papa John Schnatter- The Founder CEO & President of Papa John's Pizza

Papa John's confirmed Friday that it plans to remove founder John Schnatter's likeness from its marketing, an announcement that comes on the heels of his being exposed for using the "n"-word in a conference call, and then resigning as chairman of the board".

Bendapudi's letter, which called Schnatter's comments "hurtful and unacceptable", said the moves were made with the support of the school's Board of Trustees.

The company announced Wednesday that Schnatter had resigned, hours after he apologized for using a racial slur during a May conference call.

Papa John's, which has featured founder John Schnatter in logos and TV ads, is pulling his image from its marketing after reports he used a racial slur.

Schnatter has always been the face of the brand, and Papa John's has acknowledged in regulatory filings that its business could be hurt if Schnatter's reputation was damaged.

The Marlins also suspended a similar promotion, saying in a statement that Schnatter's "derogatory and insensitive" comments were not reflective of their organizational values and the inclusive environment they seek to provide.

But not before Merkel and other top officials in the German government had publicly fired back at Trump's breakfast diatribe. Rather than projecting unity ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting, the gathering generated nonstop images of division.

The Miami Marlins announced a similar plan on Thursday, with the Miami Herald reporting that the team was closing the Papa John's concession stand at its stadium as well as suspending a promotional deal with the brand, which gave customers 50% off pizza the day after the Marlins scored five or more runs.

Bendapudi said Schnatter was apologetic in a conversation they had recently and that he was "very supportive" of taking his name off the Center for Free Enterprise.

Thursday, two Louisville players spoke out against the name of the stadium.

Asked whether she was daring the company to sue over the name change, Bendapudi said, "It's not that type of situation at all".

"We are glad that at a national level, Papa John's took swift action to deal with the issue", said the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to ABC15. But even though it's the company's name on the stadium, "It is a feeling this time that there is too much hurt around it, and the company understands it's a hard decision".
