The nearly three-metre long by two-metre high sarcophagus was discovered in a long-concealed tomb below the earth during a survey of a plot of land for a building construction.

According to the Ministry of Antiquities, the black granite sarcophagus was found in the Sidi Gaber district of Alexandria by workers completing an excavation of a site marked out for development.

The site as a whole dates back to the Ptolemaic period between 305 BCE and 30 BCE, with this particular find uncovered five metres (16.4 feet) below the ground.

Remember how you watched the 1994 Roland Emmerich film Stargate one million times before you turned twelve and it permanently poisoned your brain so that you now immediately associate anything ancient Egypt-related with aliens? No?

Also found were carved alabaster head, which probably represents the owner of the tomb.

A 30-ton archaeological sarcophagus was found below a building in Alexandria governorate, Egypt, by the security forces, Mostafa Waziri, general secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, announced on July 1.

The Egyptian antiquities ministry said the sarcophagus had remained sealed for more than 2,000 years, with an undisturbed layer of mortar between the lid and the body of the massive stone coffin. Recently, archaeologists have discovered a 2,200-year old gold coin depicts the ancient king Ptolemy III, an ancestor of the famous Cleopatra.

Oh, and then there's the large alabaster head discovered in the same underground tomb.

Scientists also believe that they may have found the secret of the Great Pyramid's near-perfect alignment. This recent finding has left experts baffled because it measures nine foot long and that they do not know who or what lies inside.

The grave was discovered when a team from the ministry was checking out the site for construction purposes.
