  • Rejoice: We're Getting a DOWNTON ABBEY Movie

In 2017, Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, confirmed that a film had been "in the works for some time" at the opening of the "Downton Abbey: The Exhibition" event in Singapore.

The Downton Abbey movie is official. There has been talk of a "Downton" theatrical release for a while now, but as of Friday, the production is officially on. Most important of all, perhaps: Highclere Castle will return as the family's base.

Julian Fellowes, who created the acclaimed period drama, will serve as a producer on the upcoming film.

The film will be a Carnival Films production, with Brian Percival (The Book Thief) directing. The movie will be directed by Brian Percival, who previously directed the series' pilot. "Film production begins this summer".

Downton ran for six seasons on ITV in the United Kingdom and on PBS in the United States. It won three Golden Globes and 15 Emmys on top of 69 total nominations over the years. But turns of events as the post-Edwardian clan rang in 1926 in the 2015 series finale kept things cheerful with Edith marrying - and outranking her entire family; Mary expecting her second child; Anna and Bates welcoming their first; Tom and Henry christening their fancy new auto dealership; Robert accepting Cora's role outside the house; Isobel and Lord Merton in wedded bliss; and more blossoming romance for the downstairs crew: Mrs Patmore & Mr Mason, Daisy & Andy, Baxter & Molesely...

"Since the series ended, fans of "Downton" have always been waiting for the Crawley family's next chapter", Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said. "Delighted to announce we're getting the band back together!" she tweeted, while Michelle Dockery also shared her joy online, saying that she was "thrilled to announce that #DowntonAbbey is coming to the big screen".

Not surprisingly, Downton is the most nominated non-US show in the history of the Emmy Awards and was shown in more than 250 territories worldwide. While I adored the series for a couple seasons, I admittedly never finished it (yes I just spoiled myself on the finale to get you fellow readers up to speed), but why did no one tell me Matthew Goode was on the show?
