Goodlatte Says FBI's Peter Strzok Will Be Recalled For Contempt - Katie Pavlich

  • Former FBI agent Peter Strzok to lawmakers: Anti-Trump texts didn’t “impact any official action”

Republican lawmakers have been adamant that her and Strzok's political opinions clouded their judgment and impacted their work on the probes by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. There were questions Page declined to answer, Gaetz added. Strzok said he was not alone in holding political opinions, noting that colleagues in 2016 supported both Clinton and Trump but did not reflect those views on the job.

Strzok was removed from that role after anti-Trump text messages between Strzok and an Federal Bureau of Investigation attorney - Lisa Page, the woman with whom he was having an affair - were published. And my presumption, based on that frightful, disgusting behavior, that the American population would not elect somebody demonstrating that behavior to be president of the United States.

"They would not tolerate any improper behavior in me anymore than I would tolerate it in them", Strzok said. "I don't appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations in 2016".

The comments sparked immediate objections from Democrats, who called them outrageous, and Strzok was livid.

But, he added in a raised voice and emphatic tone: "It was in no way - unequivocally - any suggestion that me, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would take any action whatsoever to improperly impact the electoral process for any candidate". "It simply couldn't happen". That occurred, the official said, when Gowdy pressed for more details of the use of confidential sources who had assisted the FBI in the initial stages of the investigation.

Page appeared before a joint meeting of the Judiciary and Oversight committees for a transcribed interview expected to last several hours. "If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would".

"This information had the potential to derail and quite possibly defeat Mr. Trump, but the thought of expressing that, or exposing that information never crossed my mind", Efe quoted Mr Strzok as telling to lawmakers during a congressional hearing.

It is point that has been largely brushed aside in Trump-friendly media circles, with a text Strzok sent to Page in May 2017 also receiving comparatively little scrutiny.

"You've been out of control since you've been on this committee", she said.

The Justice Department's inspector general has criticized Strzok and Page for creating the appearance of impropriety.

Page - whose affair with Strzok has led Trump to dub them the "FBI lovers" - struck a deal with the House Judiciary Committee to testify privately after months of attempts to haul her before Congress, including defying a subpoena to testify publicly this week.
