Credit: BravoKiloVideo/ShutterstockSprint has essentially split its unlimited plans in two, with the less expensive Unlimited Basic offering a lot of the same features as Sprint's outgoing Unlimited Freedom plan at a lower rate for families of four.

Although consumers no longer get cut off or have to pay expensive overage charges when they run through a monthly data allowance, they face an increasing array of restrictions and conditions on all but the most expensive unlimited plans, including slowed download speeds.

The new higher-tier unlimited plan adds some negligible features for $10 more per month. The over 55 plan has fewer features but costs only $50 for one line and $70 for two lines. You get subscriptions to Hulu and Tidal for your troubles as well, which helps sweeten the pot a little. Indeed, it will now restrict video quality to 480p and reduce LTE hotspot usage from a whopping 10GB to 500MB. The carriers have been increasingly stretching the definition of an unlimited data plan - once a single, simple all-you-can-eat option - into something with a myriad of different adds-ons from hot spot capability to freebies like Hulu or AT&T Watch. The military plan is comparable to the unlimited basic plan but costs only $100 for four lines.

However, that promotional price is scheduled to rise in a year's time to $160 per month for four lines.

There's also a weird limited-time promo on Unlimited Plus, with prices working out to $22 per month per line for five lines provided you're not leasing a phone through Sprint. For $70 a month, Unlimited Plus gives you 15GB of mobile hotspot data, "Full HD" video streaming at 1080p, and 10GB of roaming data in Canada or Mexico.

Anderson into Wimbledon final after second longest ever Grand Slam singles match
It was the second longest Wimbledon match ever - and longest Wimbledon semi-final - as it lasted 6 hours and 35 minutes. Now, Anderson will face American John Isner , who will be making his Grand Slam semi-final debut on the Centre Court.

With the headway the T-Mobile-Sprint merger is making, one wonders why Sprint doesn't just call it a day and coast along until the deal is approved. If you travel overseas to Canada or Mexico, you'll get unlimited talk and text, and 5GB of high-speed data. A second line costs $50 and following lines are $30.

Sprint, like the other carriers, argue that people don't want a one-size-fits-all plan.

Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Basis will become available for subscribers beginning Friday, July 13.

Both Sprint's unlimited service plans include free access to Hulu (with commercials).
