In a relatively short time, Qatar Airways has grown to more than 140 destinations worldwide, offering levels of service excellence that helped the award-winning carrier to become best in the world, Skytrax said.

Travellers voted Singapore Airlines the best carrier in the world, according to SkyTrax, which surveys more than 20 million fliers every year.

Along with being one of the most respected travel brands in the world, Skytrax editors point out that Singapore Airlines flies one of the youngest aircraft fleets in the industry, with a network that spans six continents.

In a gala ceremony at the iconic Langham Hotel in London, airline leaders and top airline management from across the globe to receive their 2018 World Airline Awards.

By analysing the impression of more than 20 million travellers from 100 countries, the survey measures almost 50 different criteria.

The online survey operated from August 2017 to May 2018, together with invitations sent to previous year respondents in the survey database (total 24.45 million customers).

Other previous winners of the top prize have included Emirates (2001, 2002, 2013, 2016), Cathay Pacific (2003, 2005, 2009, 2014) and Asiana (2010). The poll covered 335 airlines, and respondents represented 100 nationalities.

Best Business Class, Best Business Class Seat and Best First Class Lounge went to Qatar Airways. Falling down the rankings were Etihad (8th to 15th), Air France (18th to 25th) and Alitalia (63rd to 75th).

The best airline carrier in Europe was found to be Virgin Atlantic. Aeroflot 7. EVA Air 8. Singapore Airlines 3. ANA All Nippon Airways 4. Lufthansa 9. Turkish Airlines 10.
