All four cities have hosted the event in the past.

San Antonio was one of seven cities vying for the marquee event in 2023-2026 cycle, including Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, North Texas and Phoenix. The news comes as a major disappointment for local basketball enthusiasts, as the Final Four selection series were chosen for the years 2023-2026.

"While we were eagerly looking forward to a more favorable outcome, we are proud of and grateful for the efforts put forward by the Big Ten, Michigan State University and the Detroit Sports Organizing Corp.to bring the NCAA Men's Final Four back to Detroit", said Detroit Sports Commission Director Kris Smith in a press release.

The NCAA announced its decision Monday during a live feed on its Twitter account. "We look forward to continued collaboration with the NCAA on future men's basketball events, while teaming to host seven upcoming NCAA championship events in Detroit".

San Antonio will host the 2025 Men's Final Four tournament at the Alamodome. Indianapolis first hosted the Final Four in 1980.

"We are thrilled for the cities of Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio and Indianapolis". They secured fundraising and saw a volunteer turnout that was "more than any other community out there", Johnson said. All those cities have hosted the event with overwhelming success in recent years, and yet all of them approached the bid process with an unassuming energy. San Antonio beat out bids from North Texas, Los Angeles and Detroit.

"It's a big day, huge day, we're beyond excited", said Debbie Johnson, Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism.

But the stadium won't have a chance to top that mark anytime soon.

Economic impact from the 2017 Final Four was an estimated $324.5 million, according to a student by ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business. "I think we have to put our game face on and, again, put together the best experience we can for the NCAA and hopefully we'll show them what we can do".

The 2024 Final Four games are set to be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
