Secret service the United States died after suffering a stroke during a visit of US President Donald trump in Scotland.

The agent suffered "a severe cerebrovascular accident" on Sunday, according to Secret Service officials, amid the President's leisurely stop at the Trump Organization-owned Turnberry golf resort. Remagen was rushed to the hospital, where he died Sunday surrounded by family and colleagues, a statement from the White House said.

Remagen, the son of a retired Secret Service employee, is survived by a wife and two small children.

The Trumps departed the White House on the Marine One helicopter on Wednesday to attend a ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, just outside Washington, where the body of Remagen, who also served five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, was due to arrive.

The Secret Service said the agent's name was being withheld to respect the family's privacy and allow time to complete personnel and family notifications.

A GoFundMe created for Remagen's family raised more than $107,000 as of Wednesday night. Trump also visited Helsinki, Finland, for a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We are sorry for your loss and are grieving with you".

"The Secret Service extends our heartfelt appreciation for the support received from all of our partners in the military, law enforcement, and medical communities, here in the United States and in Scotland", the statement read.

"The incredible men and women of the United States Secret Service travel wherever they are needed around the world, spend long periods of time away from their families, and make tremendous sacrifices for our safety and security", the president added. "We are forever in their debt". The last agent to die while in service was Christopher J. Smith, who died of a heart attack in 2005.

The agent, who had 19 years' experience, collapsed while he was working in Scotland during the U.S. President's diplomatic mission to Europe.
