Carmelo Anthony is one-and-done in Oklahoma City. His contract worth $27.9 million is expected to be bought out by the Hawks which will make him a free agent, giving him free rein on where to continue his career. Philadelphia will send Justin Anderson to Atlanta and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrott to the Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired point guard Dennis Schroeder from the Atlanta Hawks and the 24-year-old will help as a scoring option off the bench. Last season, he averaged 19.4 points and 6.2 assists. But by trading for Lin, the Hawks gave themselves a veteran point guard who can be a mentor to Young this season - and one who, if he can stay healthy after two injury-riddled seasons in Brooklyn, they could flip before February's trade deadline. The Rockets are the frontrunners to land Anthony, according to Wojnarowski.

The trade will save the Thunder about $100 million in luxury tax, as they get rid of Anthony's almost $28 million contract for next season. Oklahoma City's payroll will now rest at $148.7 million with the movement of Anthony and Muscala. It took time for Anthony to adapt, and he never completely got comfortable playing as a catch-and-shoot stretch-4. He shot just 37.5 percent from the field and mustered 11.8 points a night. In essence, Oklahoma City is paying $5 million in each of the next three seasons for a 24-year-old point guard who has started 161 games in five National Basketball Association seasons.

When he won his first Most Valuable Player award, Houston Rockets superstar James Harden was asked if they need to go after LeBron James in free agency.

But Lawrence reported that getting rid of Schroder, who has three years and $46.5 million ($63.2m) left on his contract, was Atlanta's "No. 1 priority". In comparison, he averaged 22.4 points on 43% shooting in 34.3 minutes a game prior to his lone Thunder season. The 10-time All-Star has made more than $230 million in on the court salary since breaking into the league as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.
