Local media is reporting up to 10 people, possibly including a child, have been involved in a shooting in Greektown, The Star reports.

Victims are said to be spread out across nearly two to three blocks as witnesses reported hearing anywhere between 10 and 20 shots fired.

Jody Steinhauer tells CBC News she was at Christina's restaurant on the Danforth with her family when she heard what sounded like 10 to 15 blasts of firecrackers.

Police confirm the shooter is dead.

Victims reportedly suffered "significant injuries".

The victims are being sent to trauma centres. Patients are spread across several blocks in the area. Six victims have been transported to trauma centres, 1 to a pediatric trauma centre and two to local hospitals while an unconfirmed number of people are being treated at the scene.

"I saw at least four people shot", he said. "We just ran", said John Tulloch, who was on Danforth Avenue for a nighttime walk with his brother at the time, to The Gobe and Mail.

Police are warning people to stay away from the area.
