"Nike judges women more harshly than men, which means lower salaries, smaller bonuses, and fewer stock options", the lawsuit reads.

Nike did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.

"Nike opposes discrimination of any type and has a long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion", Nike spokesperson Sandra Carreon-John said.

Cahill now works as a director of brand communications for Nike chief competitor, Adidas, according to her LinkedIn page.

The plaintiffs seek unspecified monetary damages, and a court order requiring Nike to pay its employees fairly without regard to gender. At least 11 executives have left the company in recent months. We are committed to competitive pay and benefits for our employees.

At the time, CEO Mark Parker conceded that there were internal "reports" that "do not reflect our core values of inclusivity, respect and empowerment". The lawsuit includes allegations of sexual harassment and mistreatment as revenge for rejected advances.

Nike also announced pay increases for 7,000 employees last month, in what the company described as an effort to "support a culture in which employees feel included and empowered".

Meanwhile, Cahill, who left her job as a director for the company (after being there for four years), claims she made $20,000 less annually than a male director on her team.

Cahill also alleges that a former vice president at Nike referred to women by derogatory names and singled out a female employee for harsh criticism, yelling at her in public repeatedly. "Regardless of the evidence, HR has regularly found such complaints unsubstantiated, avoided taking any meaningful corrective or preventive actions, and otherwise failed to act to end the hostility towards women in the workplace".

Other former employees have now joined the suit, which is seeking a class action settlement.

She says that she told him to stop sending her any messages not related to work, but that he kept doing it, and later refused to attend meetings she organized at work. "Women's complaints to human resources about discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, are ignored or mishandled".

Johnston alleges that following a Nike party in 2015, she received inappropriate messages from a male colleague, one with whom she had to work with regularly and was key in deciding her performance reviews. Her superiors did not allow her to move positions to avoid her harasser, the lawsuit said.
