How Much Money Tiger Woods Won Finishing 2nd At PGA Championship

  • Tony Finau watches his second shot on the 10th hole during the first round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at Bellerive Country Club Thursday Aug. 9 2018 in St. Louis

And it still felt like he was the second billing to Tiger Woods.

Woods, searching for a first major win since the 2008 US Open, moved into contention after a blistering front nine which contained five birdies and one bogey.

Woods only returned to competitive golf in November but held a one-shot lead with eight holes to play in the Open at Carnoustie and finished just two behind Brooks Koepka after a thrilling final round of 64 at Bellerive Country Club.

Woods, meanwhile, shot a 6-under-par 64 to finish in second, posting his second consecutive top-10 in a major after tying for sixth last month at The Open.

'I was pretty ticked at the British Open, ' Woods added.

"I had high hopes today, especially with 4-5 to play today and being tied with Brooks, but I'm definitely playing a lot better and moving in the right direction at a good time of the year".

He tied Koepka for the lead after flagging his tee shot at the par-three 13th and sinking the seven-footer.

After four back surgeries, you could certainly be forgiven for thinking that Tiger's time had been and gone. In all, the 42-year-old Woods put his surgically repaired back through 29 holes over 10 hours in hot, sticky weather.

At the year's final major, he reiterated that claim.

"Oh, God, I didn't even know if I was going to play golf again, so yeah", he said.
"The greens were getting fuzzy, they're getting slow, and I didn't hit the putts quite hard enough".

Woods finally found fairways on the back nine, but endured heartache at 11 when his 28-foot birdie putt hung on the edge of the cup, the ball refusing to fall until he tapped it in for par.

However, Koepka was immune to the pressure and calmly went about his business. And when he walked off the course, up and over the players' stairway above the crowd, he turned to see a gathering of thousands staring up at him. I've kind of had some trouble with that over the past two years, three years.

He birdied the next two holes. "I didn't play the last two holes very well".

"To do this is truly incredible", Koepka said. "St. Louis has never seen Tiger up close, so it's pretty insane and it makes it a lot more fun".

"I mean, everybody on the golf course heard it (the noise)", Koepka said. He moves clear of Woods and level with Koepka!

"The roars were pretty unbelievable", second-ranked 2017 PGA victor Justin Thomas said.

There is little doubt that Koepka is now a major force on the circuit, and a potential world number one in the making. He made birdie at the 12th to pull within 2 shots of Koepka, who overcame a couple of early bogeys to birdie his final three holes on the front and re-establish his lead.

"I'm exhausted. I just need to eat some proper meals tonight and I felt my hydration was good all day, so it just takes a lot out of you", he said.

"I'm pretty disappointed with myself that I couldn't play the last three holes better."
