  • It's Official The Date for Judge Kavanaugh's Supreme Court Hearing Has Been Set

President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh to fill now-retired Justice Anthony Kennedy's Supreme Court seat on July 9.

The Senate will begin confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on September 4. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Republican chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said the committee will launch up to four days of review on Tuesday, beginning with opening remarks from senators. "He has a record of judicial independence and applying the law as it is written", Grassley said. He's met with dozens of senators who have nothing but positive things to say.

Grassley, R-Iowa, said there's "plenty of time" to review documents but now it's time for Americans "to hear directly" from Kavanaugh.

With the U.S. Supreme Court building in the background, Supreme Court nominee judge Brett Kavanaugh arrives prior to meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., July 10, 2018.

The California Democrat has already indicated on multiple occasions that she will vote against Kavanaugh, tweeting just minutues after his nomination was announced that she "will oppose his nomination to the Supreme Court" because Kavanaugh "represents a direct and fundamental threat to the rights and health care of hundreds of millions of Americans".

Democrats have accused Republicans of trying to rush the confirmation process.

Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY and Sen. John McCain has been receiving cancer treatment in his home state, Republicans can not afford to lose any votes and hope to advance Kavanaugh's nomination if no Democrats support him.

A spokeswoman for Feinstein said the senator is "reviewing options in the event he continues to restrict access to only senators on the committee".

"Republicans" mad rush to hold this hearing after unilaterally deciding to block almost all of Judge Kavanaugh's records from public release is further evidence that they are hiding important information from the American people, and continues to raise the question, "What are they hiding?'" Schumer said in a statement.

The Judiciary panel has received more than 184,000 pages of records from Kavanaugh's time as a White House lawyer and his work for Independent Counsel Ken Starr. "They seem to be more frightened of this nominee's record and history than any we've ever considered".

"My colleagues should be a "no" on this nominee unless Judge Kavanaugh specifically commits that he will recuse himself on any issues that involve President Trump's personal financial dealings or the special counsel", said Sen.
