Tiger closes PGA Championship with awe-inspiring 64 in final round

Sims, who is the girlfriend of PGA Championship victor Brooks Koepka, was on hand in St. Louis to celebrate her boyfriend's third major title.

Brooks Koepka poses with the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the PGA Championship golf tournament at Bellerive Country Club. That streak continued on the par-4 ninth hole, where his ball found the cart path. Playing out of it required a strong hook shot to the left to avoid two bunkers and darned if he didn't pull it off.

2018 PGA Championship victor Brooks Koepka.

His nearest challenger is former Masters victor Adam Scott of Australia, who carded a fine five-under 65 for 10-under 200, two shots back.

Woods first had to complete 11 holes of the second round early Saturday morning, also finishing with a 66.

But the leaders hadn't teed off yet. 18's playing pretty short as well. Asked if he could have imagined himself having a chance to win not one but two majors in 2018, Tiger deadpanned, "With what swing?"

Woods lurked a single shot back.

"I'm exhausted. I just need to eat some proper meals tonight and I felt my hydration was good all day, so it just takes a lot out of you", he said. And I made sure on 17 I did. "After the round yesterday I commented it sounded like the old times, but the truth is it was more intense yesterday then I remember it being at any time".

On this day, he was celebrating the grind - and the fact that he simply would not go away.

"I never would've foreseen that two years ago, " Woods said. "Twenty-nine holes, it's not necessarily the physical, it's this mentally grinding that hard for 29 holes in this heat".

"It's going to be a long day", Fowler said.

Without hitting a fairway on the front nine, Woods cut the four-shot deficit to two.

His 10-under-par 130 score matched the lowest halfway total in major championship history, and he enjoyed a one-shot halfway lead over Kevin Kisner, and a two-shot cushion over Koepka.

Stewart Cink enjoyed his first top 10 finish in a major since denying Tom Watson at The Open in 2009 as he birdied the final two holes to return a 67 and close on 11 under alongside Jon Rahm, whose slim hopes were ended by a bogey-six at the 17th.

Then he began the third round with consecutive birdies and an already boisterous gallery at Bellerive became even more engaged. "Being in Tiger's group is always exciting".

"I feel like, if I do what I'm supposed to do", Koepka said, "I should win the golf tournament".

"You've got to decide what you want to do with it before you get out there, and it was a lot of fun".

Tiger followed a familiar script, igniting the crowd with birdies at Nos.

But Woods could turn it only so far.
