  • Subtropical depression forms far off in north Atlantic

"Some strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and the subtropical depression is expected to become a subtropical storm later today".

This is in stark contrast to what climate scientists were saying after a strong hurricane season in 2017 that spawned Harvey, Irma, and Maria. We are near the peak of the season, but the rest of the Atlantic is expected to be quiet for the next week or so.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the Atlantic's Subtropical Storm Ernesto had maximum sustained winds Wednesday near 40 miles per hour (65 kph) with some additional strengthening is possible over the next day. And, good news, this will be the second system in a row that will have absolutely no impact to the United States of America.

Zinedine Zidane wants to replace Jose Mourinho as manager
After his shock exit at Real Madrid, winning three consecutive Champions League titles, he was linked with a move to Juventus. Mourinho is still under contract at Manchester United and will continue as manager for the foreseeable future.

Ernesto is centered about 695 miles (1,120 kilometers) southeast of Canada's Cape Race, Newfoundland, and is moving north near 8 mph (13 kph). Dvorak estimates range from 30 to 40 kt, and with the increased organization since the last advisory, the initial wind speed is set to 35 kt. Continuity prevents a higher forecast, but Lane seems destined to eventually become a category-4 hurricane like Hector.

You may remember Alberto was a subtropical storm when it moved through portions of Florida in late May. Use the interactive radar map to zoom in to see the tracks.
