  • Boston Celtics player Jabari Bird appears for his arraignment on domestic violence charges at Brighton Municipal Court

Boston Celtics guard Jabari Bird was arrested over the weekend and arraigned Thursday on a series of disturbing charges, and the team has finally made a decision to address the situation.

The Celtics guard is being accused of assaulting his girlfriend for four hours in his apartment and strangling her multiple times, including once until she lost consciousness, according to Tom Westerholm of MassLive.

Bird pleaded not guilty to felony kidnapping, felony assault and battery with a risky weapon, strangulation and assault and battery of a household member. She then told a member of the Celtics organization, who passed it onto the police and checked in on Bird while the victim was receiving treatment at the hospital.

Bird has been at a local Massachusets hospital, where he is under guarded watch, since the alleged assault last Friday.

The Celtics released an official statement regarding the allegations, saying that their "thoughts were with the victim" and that they were "deeply disturbed by the allegations".

New details have emerged surrounding the domestic abuse allegations facing Boston Celtics shooting guard Jabari Bird.

Pochettino said that "of course" Lloris would remain captain, explaining: "He's the first that regrets everything". He made a mistake and is suffering, and is punishing himself. "We are not God, we can't judge people".

The team notes that domestic violence issues are handled by the NBA's main office.

'I'm taking some time away from the team as I deal with my legal and medical issues.

He is now free after posting $50,000 cash bail, and said in a statement that the full story of the incident is not yet been publicized. "She said Bird texted her that he would kill himself if she didn't come back".

What is Bird's employment status with the Celtics?

Bird, a second-round draft choice of the Celtics in 2017 out of California, signed a two-year contract with the team this summer after splitting his rookie season between Boston and the Maine Red Claws of the G-League. Only the first year is guaranteed. His next court date is set for October 25. He played in Boston on a two-way contract last season and was expected to be one of the last players on the bench of a championship contender. In the meantime, he can travel out of state only with the Celtics, should the organisation keep him on the roster entering this month's training camp. Bird's case could be an important and complicated one for a league that has sought to both take a firmer stance against domestic violence, and create a more open environment for players working through mental health issues.
