  • McDonald’s workers in 10 cities stage #MeToo strike

The affected cities include Chicago; Durham, North Carolina; Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri; Los Angeles and San Francisco; Miami and Orlando, Florida; Milwaukee; and New Orleans.

McDonald's did not specifically address its use of Seyfarth Shaw, but said in its own emailed statement that the company has "strong policies, procedures and training in place specifically created to prevent sexual harassment".

The workers have joined forces with the TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund and the Fight for $15, a movement dedicated to raising wages and establishing unions for fast food employees, to file a series of complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In an email to the AP, McDonald's officials wrote, "We have policies, procedures and training in place that are specifically created to prevent sexual harassment at our company and company-owned restaurants, and we firmly believe that our franchisees share this commitment".

McDonald's workers across the USA are planning to walk out Tuesday during lunchtime in an effort to push the company to take a firmer stance against sexual harassment in the workplace. "I can't tell her to stand up for herself if I'm not willing to stand up for myself".

Bolstered by the success of the #MeToo movement, where high-profile women have decried sexual harassment in the workplace, they are hoping the strike will highlight the plight of women and LGBT workers in low-paid jobs who face similar issues on a daily basis but whose struggles rarely make the headlines. "To ensure we are doing all that can be done, we have engaged experts in the areas of prevention and response including, RAINN, to evolve our policies so everyone who works at McDonald's does so in a secure environment every day".

Advocates are calling on McDonald's to drop the law firm defending the Weinstein Co. from the roster of those counseling the fast-food chain on its sexual harassment policy.

After these incidents another co-worker took her into the men's bathroom, pinned her against a wall, exposed himself and tried to have sex with her. "They could do a way better job". They said the panel should be made up of workers, corporate and franchise representatives and leaders of national women's groups. The teen reported it to her manager, who allegedly told her, "You will never win that battle". "We all took a vote and the decision to go on strike was unanimous".

One of those employees making demands is Tanya Harrell, a McDonald's worker from Louisiana.

They marched several blocks to McDonald's' headquarters in the West Loop, many with tape over their mouths.
