Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is denying a second allegation of sexual misconduct. This story centers on Deborah Ramirez, who has come forward (or was pushed to come forward) with a claim that while she and Kavanaugh were both students at Yale, they were both at a drunken dorm party where Kavanaugh allegedly exposed himself to her.

Ramirez was reluctant at first to speak publicly "partly because her memories contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time of the alleged incident", The New Yorker reported.

Ford's lawyers said that, in a Sunday morning call with committee staff members, they agreed to the hearing even though the committee refused to subpoena Mark Judge, a Kavanaugh friend who Ford said witnessed the attack, as well as others she said were present.

She also asked the committee's chairman, Senator Chuck Grassley, to have the FBI investigate the allegations of both Ms Ford and Ms Ramirez.

When she first told a USA lawmaker her harrowing allegation of a 1982 high-school sexual assault at the hands of a prep-school kid now poised to become one of America's most powerful judges, she was just an anonymous psychology professor in California - and wanted to stay that way.

"Various senators have been dismissive of her (Ford's) account and should have to shoulder their responsibility to ask her questions", Ford's lawyers say.

Further, those classmates said that the allegations in the story would be completely out of character for Kavanaugh.

Updates with White House statement, other details throughout.

'I am issuing this statement today to make it clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against Brett Kavanaugh, ' Smyth declared.

According to the White House, a fourth denial was sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Saturday by Leland Keyser, whose lawyer said in a statement she "does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present with, or without, Dr. Ford". Then, like now, another Republican president had selected a Supreme Court nominee, now-Justice Clarence Thomas, facing accusations of sexual harassment. "I remember a penis being in front of my face", she told the magazine.

"The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh", she added.

At least two Democratic senators are investigating the claim, the New Yorker reported.

Kavanaugh's other accuser, meanwhile, said Sunday that she is "committed" to appearing before an open Senate hearing Thursday.

It took six days of "assessing her memories" for Ramirez to say she recalled Kavanaugh committing the alleged incident, and that came only after consulting with an attorney provided by the Democrats. "This 35-year-old uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear a good man down", said Kupec. They also compared the current controversy to the sexual harassment allegations against Clarence Thomas by Anita Hill in 1991.

"The framing at the moment is these two dichotomies of either completely exposing yourself to vast amounts of personal and professional risk, or saying nothing", she said.

Ford's attorney, Debbie Katz, said it wasn't surprising that someone wouldn't remember events at a party from 30 years ago.

"In the very near future, Judge Kavanaugh will be on the Supreme Court", McConnell said at the Values Voter Summit Friday.

Kavanaugh also has agreed to testify at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing planned for 10am (1400 GMT) on Thursday.

Mr Grassley wrangled with Ms Ford's lawyers for the last week over the exact terms of her appearance. All three told investigators that they had no recollection of the evening in question, the committee said.
