  • 6.5 Million Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled

JBS Tolleson Inc.is an Arisona Based meat producer and he is recalling 6,500,966 pounds of non intact various beef based products. It's advising people to throw out or return the recalled beef. "267" found inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging label.

More than 6.5 million pounds of raw beef products were voluntarily recalled Thursday from a plant in Arizona where federal officials had previously complained about "egregious" and "inhumane" livestock conditions. USA Today notes that hundreds of products are on the beef recall list published by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food and Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which can be found here. Some of the products have a sell or use by date in late September.

According to the release, FSIS is concerned that consumers may have affected products stored in the freezer.

"We are working in close partnership with USDA to make sure all potentially impacted product is removed from stores and homes", JBS said in a statement. In just a month, between 5 August and 6 September there were total fifty seven cases of this salmonella contamination in meat in 16 states. Most people recover on their own, but those who experience persistent diarrhea may need to be hospitalized. No deaths have been reported, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Since the JBS Tolleson recall was caused by salmonella, it may cause more fear for consumers buying any sort of meat. Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other places in the body. The patient age range is from less than one year to 88.

Who is more likely to have a severe illness?

Sixty-one percent are male. Symptoms of salmonellosis include abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and fever that usually start between 12 and 72 hours after eating contaminated foods.

If you or a family member became ill with a Salmonella infection, including Reactive Arthritis or Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), after consuming food and you're interested in pursuing a legal claim, contact the Marler Clark Salmonella attorneys for a free case evaluation. Several patients ate ground beef at the same events or purchased ground beef from the same grocery store chains.
